LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

We're committed to equipping students of all ages to become our society's next generation of leaders—individuals ready to speak up, step out, meet a need, and affect positive change.

Our leadership training program provides opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills in a variety of ways by following Christ's example of leading to serve others.

YOUNG LEADERS

 

House System

Middle School students gain experience in group dynamics through the House System where each student is assigned to a house named in the honor of the school founders—Tabb, Koch, Love, and Michaelson. Eighth-graders serve as house captains who lead each house along with six committee chairs. Through various activities and academic achievements, the houses compete to win the coveted House Cup.

 

Prefect Program

Following a rigorous interview process, eight seniors are selected to serve as Upper School Prefects based on their academic records, demonstrated leadership, service, character, integrity, and spirituality. With a faculty member serving in an advisory capacity, each Upper School Prefect leads a student committee dedicated to a specific area of service.

 

Institute of Leadership

Upper School students may participate in the Institute of Leadership, a formal, curriculum-driven leadership program designed to train, empower, and send students out into the world to serve and train others. Principles of leadership are taught and discussed through teaching sessions and mentor meetings and then put into practice through group and individual service projects.

 

Class Officers

Upper School students run and serve as elected class officers who plan and coordinate grade-level events and activities. A cherished tradition is the speech made by the senior class president each year at graduation.

 

Young Leaders

Leadership development begins in Lower School with classroom reponsibilites. As students mature, they fulfill leadership roles under the guidance of teachers and coaches. Fourth grade students may serve as Sunshine Helpers who walk pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students to their classrooms from morning carpool or Chapel Helpers who model worship and approrpriate behavior to younger students.

Professional Experience
Program

Upper School students have opportunities to learn from business leaders through a series of "Lunch & Learn" sessions where guests share industry insights and career advice as well as potential job shadowing and intership opportunities. Topics range from law and politics to medicine, finance, and entrepreneurship.
